Lightning Round Criticism

I've been told too many times that something is the overall answer to everything. Here are some examples:

Freedom:

Personal liberty, making your own way in life, doing what you really want to do and standing up for what you believe is right.

I tell you this: Who the heck is anyone else to tell you what is important and what is not? ( "My Way", youtube)

That being said, no matter how much you love freeeeeeeeeeedom, some things really are shared. Like air quality! We all breathe the same air, so we have to choose together how much lead or ozone or whatever is okay.

Collectivism:

Working together, looking out for everyone, making a world in which everyone has at least a chance to go far.

I tell you this: The world is stronger than any of us, it can break anyone. Together though, we can make it.

That being said, as organizations get more powerful they get more capable of crushing you... and how much do you really trust them?

The Golden Rule:

Treat others as you wish to be treated.

I tell you this: it's just so good and so practical to use this in the day-to-day interactions I have with people. It's easy to think through at a moment's notice and makes everything run so much smoother.

That being said, it doesn't really give any guidance about how society should run in general. Say you have to decide whether or not to raise taxes and use the money to build new roads - what then? Both lower taxes and functioning roads are good options.

Under construction from here!

Just don't be bad:

Living a life of the least harm.
